Abstract

Limited water availability during the dry season and reliance on diesel-powered pumps remain major obstacles to rice field irrigation in Ulak Depati Village, as diesel pumps require high operating costs and inefficient manual operation. This community engagement activity aims to design and implement an Arduino-based, solar-powered automatic water pump system that operates according to soil moisture conditions, as well as to improve the partner farmer group's knowledge and skills in operating and maintaining the system. The system consists of solar panels, a solar charge controller (SCC), a battery, an Arduino Uno, a soil moisture sensor, a relay module, a solid-state relay (SSR), and a DC water pump. The implementation stages included socialization, field surveys, system design and assembly, field installation and testing, and training and mentoring for the farmer group. The results showed that the Arduino Uno successfully processed sensor data to control the pump automatically, turning the pump on when the sensor value exceeded 450 and stopping it at values of 450 or below. Field testing delivered 2,513.60 liters of water with a water level of 4.7 cm over 246 minutes, while the training evaluation involving 15 participants achieved an average satisfaction rate of 93%. These findings indicate that the program effectively supports automatic solar-powered rice field irrigation and enhances the farmers' capacity to manage appropriate technology independently
